Armagh Market Square
Completed 9 months early, realignment of and granite footpaths to 11 city centre streets including Florentine pattern cobble lock to Market Square. The project involved the regeneration of 11 inner city streets of Armagh. The works included:
- Diversion of electrical, gas, telecoms, sewer and water supplies;
- Installation of new carriageway drainage;
- Construction of new traffic and pedestrian management arrangements;
- Provision of new parking bays with increased provision for disabled users;
- Installation of new street lighting;
- Construction of and realignment of natural stone surfaced pavements;
- Installation of new traffic signalled controlled junctions and pedestrian crossings;
- Provision of artworks;
- Installation of street furniture including engraved natural street name paving slabs, cycle racks, bespoke stone seating and traffic restrictors, signage, letter receptacles;
- Tree planting and landscape works and;
- An increase of public usable space at Market Square which is the central area of the City.
Over 17000m2 of granite paving and over 800lnm of granite kerbing was laid throughout the scheme. Of particular note was the granite setts in Market Square were laid in a Florentine pattern which required a high level of skillsets and continual attendance by an engineer to set out these intricate works.
The nature of the project required extensive liaison with traders, public representatives, Statutory Authority’s, Businesses, Service Providers and the general public.
Extensive traffic and pedestrian management and liaison with traders to programme the weekly activities.
