Belfast Rapid Transit – Citi Route
This project involved carriageway widening and resurfacing to facilitate the implementation of the Citi Route section of the Belfast Rapid Transport Network. This new infrastructure forms part of Belfast’s Road Share Smart Movers initiative, designed to improve the environment and make efficient use of the existing road network for future transport needs within the city. This phase of the works where located around Belfast City Centre, including Donegall Quay, East Bridge Street / Albertbridge Road and Cromac Street.
Works included:
- Site Clearance, mainly comprising existing street furniture, kerbs & surfaces
- Installation of Granite Road Kerbs (3462m), Granite Drainage Channels (174m) & ACO drainage channels (50m)
- Upgrading existing drainage systems, including installation of kerb inlet gullies (119nr.) to reduce carriageway ironwork and improve bus ride quality
- Diversion of existing and installation of new services for Utility Providers, including NIE, BT, Vodafone, Eircom, NIW, PNG
- Amendment and upgrading of existing Traffic Signals and Street lighting
- Carriageway milling and resurfacing (23200m²)
- Upgrading of existing footway pavements (12900m²), including natural stone paving, tactile and asphalt
- Installation of Road markings and Traffic Signs
- D&B of Retaining Wall adjacent to Central Station (28m long)
- Installation of Pedestrian Guardrails (199m)
- Relocation of Bus Shelter
- Landscaping (tree & shrub planting & grass seeding) & Accommodation works
