East Galway Landfill Cell Development & Capping Works
Construction of 2 new Engineered Cells within an operational landfill site together with the final capping of 4 areas during separate mobilisation phases.
Engineered Cell Lining works comprised:
- Major earthworks – Excavation (70000m³) & filling (96000m³)
- Installation of Groundwater drainage blanket (21500m² x 500mm deep), pipework, collection chambers & extraction pumps
- On-site production & installation of Bentonite Enriched Soil (BES), 19000m², 500mm deep
- Supply & place Basal lining works, (21000m²) including HDPE, Geotextile protection and Geocomposites,
- Supply & installation of leachate drainage blanket (14000m² x 500mm deep), pipework
- Installation of leachate extraction pumps, chambers & associated pumping main to existing leachate treatment plant
Capping works comprised:
- Grading of waste & restoration materials (24500m³)
- Removal of Temporary liner & preparation (92600m²)
- Placing Geonet Gas collection, LLDPE impermeable liner & Geonet drainage layers complete with cut of/anchor trenches (112800m²)
- Placing 850mm deep subsoil capping & 150mm deep topsoil and sowing with grass seed (112800m²)
- Installation of Gas collection pipework (12000m), chambers (16no.), knockout pots (16no.)
- Extensive reprofiling of previously capped areas, placing of topsoil and landscaping and planting
